Hundreds of Sonoma County Immigrants & Allies Are Expected To March This May Day To Denounce Trump’s Deportations and to Demand that the County Pass a Sanctuary Ordinance.
On Thursday, May 1, 3-6:30 pm, the Sonoma County community will express its moral outrage over President Trump’s deportations and actions against migrants by marching from the Sheriff’s Office to Old Courthouse Square, in downtown Santa Rosa. Marchers will also call on the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors to do more to protect the County’s undocumented population by passing a “Non-Collaboration,” or “Sanctuary” Ordinance so no County entity, including the Sheriff, may share information with Immigration enforcement.
“The immigrant community isn’t going anywhere,” states Luis Bravo, Chair of VIDAS, a legal service provider for the local immigrant community. “We deserve to feel safe, not terrified that we may be separated from our families at any moment.”
The Sonoma County May Day March joins cities and regions across the country marching for immigrant and worker rights.
