Building the Shamatha Sand Mandala

Making sand Mandala

Beginning April 18, 2024, former Tibetan monks of the Gyumed Monastery, Lobsang Tsering, Doctor of Acupuncture and professor at San Francisco State University, and Gedun Kalsang, a.k.a. Jampa, will be at SVMA building the Shamatha Mandala, which depicts the nine stages of mental development and is used in meditation practice.

To see the artists at work, come no later than April 20. While you are there, visit the art exhibition of Tibetan-Napalese artist Tsherin Scherpa/ The mandala will remain on view until April 28. A sweeping away ceremony may be scheduled during the last days of the exhibition. Consult the SVMA website for updates.

FREE admission every Wednesday.
Open: Wed – Sun, 11 am – 5 pm
Closed:  Mon – Tue, major holidays, and during exhibition installations.

Free 3-hour street parking is available within close walking distance of the Museum.
