The City of Santa Rosa offers a variety of opportunities for citizens to participate in local government through volunteer positions on various boards, commissions, and committees. These roles support City Council and city departments, and appointments are made by individual council members or the full City Council.

There are more than 15 City boards covering the things that shape daily life in Santa Rosa, including:
- Art in Public Places Committee
- Board of Parks and Recreation
- Housing Authority
- Community Advisory Board
- Planning Commission
- City Charter Review Committee
Why it matters for our community:
- Open to residents. You need to live within a City Council district and be over 18.
- Training is provided. The City trains new members in ethics, finance and open-meeting rules, so you don't need prior experience.
- Every neighborhood counts. Councilmembers aim to appoint members from different parts of the city.
- Our voices are missing. AAPI residents, immigrant families and multilingual households are still underrepresented. The City tracks this in its Annual Diversity Report.
