The Sonoma County Peace Crane Project with Petaluma Parks and Recreation, invites you to Rooting for the Future, a Hiroshima Peace Tree Dedication Ceremony on Sunday, August 4th, at the Lucchesi Community Center, 320 North McDowell Blvd, Petaluma. This event is free and wheelchair accessible. The Children’s Program (age 5 and up) is 1:30 to 2:00 p.m. The main program starts at 2:00 p.m. followed by a reception and refreshments.
Coast Miwok Council Elder, Joe Sanchez, will offer permission for the peace tree to take root in his ancestral land as a symbol of peace, resilience, and hope.
David Perry, a retired Professor, will describe working with, former U.S. Secretary of Defense William J. Perry, on educating about the ongoing dangers of nuclear weapons. Their podcast series “At The Brink,” examines decades of struggle by citizens against the testing and deployment of nuclear weapons, culminating with the passage of the UN Nuclear Ban Treaty in 2021.
