The JACL Sonoma County Chapter would like to invite you to join us for our Veterans Day Event and Potluck Dinner at Enmanji Memorial Hall on November 11th.
For many, Japanese Community Potluck Dinners are events, not to be missed. We appreciate the many wonderful dishes, lively conversation, and opportunity to visit with friends and relatives. It’s been too long. Please share this invitation with others that you think would enjoy sharing a meal and joining us as we celebrate and remember those that have served our country.
In 1943, the U.S. Army created a segregated unit, comprised of Americans of Japanese ancestry, the 442nd Regimental Combat Team. For most Americans and many younger Japanese Americans, the stories of the 100th Battalion, 442nd Regimental Combat Team, and Military Intelligence Service (MIS) are not well known. Few members of these units are still with us.
On this Veterans Day, 80 years after the formation of the 442nd Regimental Combat Team, it seems only fitting that we pay tribute to their heroism, patriotism, and sacrifice.
Sonoma County JACL is honored to have Maj. Andrew LeMarQuand, U.S. Army (Ret.) to introduce the “Hall of Heroes” program being created by the Veterans of Foreign Wars to honor local veterans. Also speaking will be local author Alan Murakami who will talk about his book “Peter Masuoka: The Uncle I Never Knew.” NOTE: if you bring in your copies, he will be available to sign them.
We are very pleased to welcome Lane Nishikawa, filmmaker, director, actor to our event. Lane will talk about the making of this movie, answer questions, and he’ll also introduce his new documentary film “League of Dreams,” a look at JACL, its past, present, and future.
If you are able to attend, and have not already done so, please send an email RSVP to
Event@sonomacountyjacl.org, and let us know how many people will be in your party so we can make sure to set enough tables & chairs for the potluck dinner.
Hope to see you there . . . it’s been too long!
