About Us

Our Story

At the beginning of June 2021, a group of concerned residents of Sonoma County, troubled by historic and present anti-Asian sentiments and actions in the Bay Area and in the country, met online to discuss what we could do to help the Asian and Pacific Islander community in Sonoma County. At that time, we were concerned mostly about how Asian businesses were negatively impacted by the Pandemic lockdown and the threat of anti-Asian violence.

In the ensuing four months, we continued to meet online every other week to discuss how to network with the very diverse Asian and Pacific Islander communities and find out their concerns and needs, particularly for the most vulnerable among them. Our objective is to create a safe and welcoming community through organizing, networking, and rallying the AAPI communities in the area.

Our Mission

The primary mission of the Asian American Pacific Islander Coalition of North Bay is to celebrate culture, empower the community, and promote positive change for the Asian American Pacific Islander Community in the four North Bay counties–Sonoma, Marin, Napa, and Solano counties to the north of San Francisco Bay Area.

  • To Celebrate Culture, we seek to highlight and empower all AAPI perspectives by learning and sharing histories as well as personal stories of our people.
  • To Empower the Community, we focus on identifying and addressing the needs and strengths of the community by bringing forward healing in education and celebratory spaces.
  • To Promote Positive Change, we advocate for the AAPI community by addressing racism and leading discussions surrounding current AAPI issues.

Who We Are

AAPI Coalition of North Bay is a very young organization, having started meeting online as a community group in June 2021. Membership is open to residents of any of the four North Bay counties of the San Francisco Bay area who support the interest of the AAPI community. As a paying member in good standing, one can vote on decisions regarding the direction of the organization, nominate individuals to be Officers and Board of Directors, and run for election to the Board of Directors to represent the multi-diverse ethnicity of the AAPI community.

In January 2024, we nominated and elected 12 Board of Directors to represent our multi-diverse community. Among the Directors, four officers – President, vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer – were elected to carry out the functions of the organization. We are now a 501(C)(3) registered charitable nonprofit status. Donations and membership fees made to AAPIC North Bay will be tax-deductible to the full extent of the law. EIN #87-4319882.
